Trauma was termed the neglected epidemic and neglected disorder of current culture. Trauma affects hundreds of thousands of people every year and costs billions of dollars in direct spending and indirect damages. Trauma care has improved over the last 20 years, largely due to enhancements in trauma systems, analysis, triage, resuscitation, and medical services. However, the Institute of Medicine report recognized a crisis in access and distribution to emergency care that could have an impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of the trauma system. Similarly, the predicted deficit in critical care professionals may also degrade the post-emergency care of critically injured patients.
